    Stephanie Funke

Wildlife and equine paintings are created to portray nature’s gentle and even playful side of life. Evoking an intense and even warming emotion which generates a smile from people viewing Stephanie’s paintings. These paintings are created by using pastels which lend themselves in the creation of soft and gentle flowing lines and colors found in nature. Lighting is another element that Stephanie focuses on within her paintings to give the viewer a great sense of time and place within her paintings.

In 1994 I made a decision that helped me understand what my true passion is, photography. At the ripe ole age of 12, I brought my mother’s point and shoot camera to school, and as all pre-teen girls do, was taking pictures of all my friends. I was hooked from the beginning. At 17, I considered myself a more serious photographer by taking senior portraits of my classmates and dabbling in Fine Art. Knowing that I wanted to expand my knowledge of photography, I went to the Rocky Mountain School of Photography here in Missoula after I graduated from high school. In 2002 took the Summer Intensive Program (SI). That summer was amazing, in the sense of being surrounded by people who enjoy the same passion as I do. I was constantly learning of the new techniques that I could offer my photographs. I graduated with a certificate of completion in August of 2002. Soon after I realized that I needed to put things on hold to venture out into the “real world”. Today with more life experience, I’m ready to show how I view the world through my photography. I love taking pictures of odds and ends and transform them into unique pieces of wall decor. I’m working hard on expanding my mind and creativity with people, landscapes, weddings and pets. Currently, I went digital with a Nikon D80, but on occasionally shoot with my film camera, a Nikon N60.

The painting style I identify with most is action painting. Within that realm the possibilities are endless. Through experimentation and randomness I select materials and create themes. Seldom do I have a predetermined agenda when approaching a piece. This mixed installation was created between fall 2007 and fall 2008. The primary medium is oil, however acrylic sometimes finds its way into backgrounds. I’ve chosen to leave all the pieces untitled, so that you are only affected by your own interpretations. If further explanation is desired, contact B. Stew.
